Mexico has a current workforce of about 500,000 professionals that is growing at a rate of about 65,000 new professionals every year. A growing opportunity for hiring by foreign IT service providers is stimulating growth in the IT labor pool. Foreign IT services organizations that have opened facilities in Mexico include 15 significant brand-name companies, which are all hiring local talent to staff their facilities. The Mexican IT professionals are trained and educated to suit domestic and global IT market needs. There is a ready supply of staff, and the Gartner Group states that the IT services providers that have opened facilities in Mexico have reported positive results with regard to hiring and training staff. The staff brings excellent technical skills and adequate English proficiency. And Mexico has multiple locations with a solid source of labor. Labor tax liabilities are about 25 - 30% and the attrition rate is 5 - 10 %. The development of English capabilities in the labor pool has been stimulated by geographic proximity, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the intense commercial relationship with the U.S. Several bilingual Spanish-English call centers that exist in Mexico. Mexican professionals have the advantage of being bi-lingual in Spanish and English, providing increasing opportunities for IT services interactions. |
