The development of a modern and efficient infrastructure is a strategic objective of the Mexican government. During 2006, Mexico increased spending in various aspects of its infrastructure, including telecommunications equipment, PCs, network equipment, voice over IP equipment, and fixed and mobile network infrastructure. The IT and telecommunications industries grew 11% during 2006, with a total estimated value of $37 billion. All the major modes of transportation — road, rail (freight services), air travel and ports — are well-developed in Mexico. There are more than 300 flights daily to various destinations in the U.S. In 2007, the government invested about U$S 1.2 billion for road infrastructure, U$S132 million to improve digital communication networks and U$S 81 million for airport security improvements. The Gartner Group stated that U.S. enterprise clients report that adding major Mexican city locations to their telecommunications and network infrastructure is straightforward and low cost, and that availability is equivalent to U.S. standards. The country’s modern and well developed infrastructure enhances the attractiveness of Mexico as a nearshore sourcing destination. |
